мебели от чамBoth the machine and bandwidth may be a little taxed. A Minecraft multiplayer server has been installed and is quite popular – but a bit resource-intensive. There was briefly a Team Fortress 2 multiplayer server running, but that has since been off-sited.
Wordpress upgraded yet fucking again. Other than that, no news is good news. Now accepting donations for new hardware, though.

Upgrade

Posted in News on February 17th, 2010

холови диваниThe transition from FC9 to FC12 went shockingly well. The migration path took a half a day, but went off seemingly without a hitch – so far. And really, I did it just to get a modern python 2.6 install, go figure. But there we are.

Otherwise, I just nuked another goddamn injection off this thing. WordPress, what the hell is wrong with you? I can’t handle this seemingly daily update cycle. Jerks.

All is well otherwise. Looking forward to donations for a new machine, but not holding my breath.

Moved

Posted in News on August 13th, 2009

that was painful.

Thanks to incompetence on the part of AT&T, service was disconnected three days early. Not only that, but it turns out that there was an external line issue at the new place. After being lied to repeatedly for three days, they finally got it fixed on wednesday. So. Here we are. And now, in theory, we actually have the highest-tier of DSL available. It’s not much, I know, but it’s slightly better than before.

Of course, now that it’s hitting 90 degrees during the day and the new place has no air conditioning, we’ll see how long the hardware lasts…

Move Update

Posted in News on August 6th, 2009

I believe the transition will occur on Monday 10 August. Be prepared some hours of downtime. I’m not sure exactly how long; I don’t know when they’ll cut off service at the old place and reinstate it at the new. And that’s provided that it works. If it does, it’ll be… a while, in the terms of hours. If it doesn’t, it could be… days? Here’s hoping not.

Move

Posted in News on July 28th, 2009

I, and this server, will be moving shortly.   A new location has been obtained, and am in the process of moving house.

Exactly when the server transition will occur is up in the air, but expect it to be no later than mid-August:  sometime in the next 2.5 weeks, at the latest.  Downtime *should* be minimal, but it depends on the state of the lines at the new place and could end up lasting for a day or more if I’m unlucky.  It may require some additional servicing: it’s a better place for human living, but slightly less so for data without a little extra care and modification.  I’ll post when things are going to change over as soon as I’ve got the details hammered out – I’ll probably know by the end of the week.

So BACK UP YOUR DATA.  I claim no responsibility whatsoever.

Sick and tired

Posted in News on July 5th, 2009

Sick and tired of WordPress injection exploits!  Apparently I’m on some trawler’s shit list, so keep getting pummelled.  I come back and keep finding them.  HOPEFULLY, this latest upgrade will fix this bullshit.  If not, I’ll wipe and start from scratch.  Nothing else to report system-wide.  Done some basic package and kernel upgrades, but nothing fancy.  The machine continues on, with or without me.

Injection

Posted in News on July 21st, 2008

Edit: Even Fucking more injection exploits. This is fucking ridiculous. Now up to wp-2.8 – maybe that will actually fucking fix something. Nothing else to report, system-wide.

God damn injection exploits keep popping up. WordPress is a freaking security nightmare, I tell you what. Upgrading to latest now.

Mail

Started using several major RBLs tonight. 200+ spam a day to root alone is just un-goddamn-bearable. Hopefully it’s more beneficial than harmful, we’ll see.

Major Upgrade

Posted in News on May 30th, 2008

Big, big overhaul tonight – we jumped from Fedoracore 5 to Fedora 9.  It went just a little bumpy, but not too bad overall.  Any errors or inconsistences, please notify me immediately.  Some packages I had installed may have gone astray, and note that “pine” has changed to “alpine”, stupidly, and “pico” is “nano”.

Oh, and bad news: the DSL “upgrade” from months ago? Yeah, it hadn’t been performing well, was at full saturation, and a bit of rain caused it to fail repeatedly until things dried out, so we’re back to the old 3meg line for now. Bummer. I get to call AT&T and try to deal with getting a retroactive rebate for the past, oh, eight months… Great.

Also, Post Partum is trashed yet again, but that doesn’t really mean much to anyone these days anyways.  Nonetheless, my stubbornness will eventually see it resurrected in some form, I’m sure.

Boldly Forward

We upgraded today from a paltry 512MB up to 2GB of RAM. Hopefully we notice some load-time decreases. Nothing particularly new besides that.
